The VSAN Conical Strainer is a compact and efficient temporary filtration device designed to protect critical pipeline equipment during plant commissioning, startup, testing, flushing, and maintenance operations. Its cone-shaped design effectively captures welding slag, rust, scale, dirt, construction debris, and other foreign particles before they reach sensitive downstream equipment such as pumps, control valves, compressors, flow meters, turbines, and heat exchangers.
Unlike permanent strainers, the Conical Strainer is installed temporarily between pipeline flanges and removed once the system has been thoroughly cleaned. Its lightweight construction, simple installation, and excellent filtration efficiency make it an economical solution for safeguarding valuable process equipment during the initial stages of plant operation.
Manufactured from premium-quality Stainless Steel (SS304, SS316, SS316L), Duplex Stainless Steel, Monel, Hastelloy, and other corrosion-resistant materials, the VSAN Conical Strainer provides excellent durability, high mechanical strength, and resistance to corrosive process media. The perforated plate with optional wire mesh offers precise filtration while maintaining low pressure loss and high flow capacity.
The VSAN Conical Strainer is available in Cone Type and Basket Cone configurations with a wide range of perforation sizes, mesh ratings, and flange dimensions. Designed in accordance with ANSI, ASME, API, DIN, BS, and IS standards, it is suitable for pressure ratings including PN10, PN16, PN25, PN40, ANSI Class 150, 300, and 600.
Widely used across Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Chemical Processing, Power Generation, Water Treatment, Marine, Pharmaceutical, Food & Beverage, Steel, Cement, Paper & Pulp, and Process Industries, the VSAN Conical Strainer ensures reliable temporary filtration and extends the service life of critical equipment.
The VSAN Conical Strainer operates on the principle of temporary mechanical filtration. It is installed between two pipeline flanges with the cone positioned in the direction of fluid flow. As the process fluid passes through the perforated or wire mesh cone, solid particles larger than the screen openings are trapped inside the conical filter element, while the filtered fluid continues downstream.
The cone-shaped design provides a large filtration surface area, reducing pressure drop and allowing efficient debris collection during startup and commissioning. Once the pipeline has been cleaned and the accumulated contaminants are removed, the Conical Strainer is taken out of the pipeline, allowing the system to operate under normal conditions.
This temporary filtration process protects downstream equipment from damage caused by construction debris and ensures safe, reliable plant commissioning.
