The VSAN Guided Wave Radar (GWR) Level Transmitter is a high-precision contact-type level measuring instrument designed for continuous and reliable measurement of liquids, viscous media, slurries, interface levels, and bulk solids in industrial process applications. Utilizing advanced Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) technology, the transmitter provides highly accurate level measurement regardless of changes in process conditions such as pressure, temperature, vapor, foam, dust, turbulence, or changes in dielectric constant.
Unlike non-contact radar level transmitters, the Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter uses a probe (rod, cable, or coaxial type) that extends into the process vessel. High-frequency microwave pulses travel along the probe until they reach the surface of the process medium. The microwave signal is reflected back to the transmitter, allowing the instrument to accurately calculate the level based on the signal travel time. This measuring principle ensures stable and precise measurement even in narrow tanks, tall vessels, underground storage tanks, bypass chambers, and applications with internal obstructions.
The VSAN Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter is suitable for measuring a wide variety of process media including water, wastewater, chemicals, acids, alkalis, solvents, oils, fuels, lubricants, edible oils, liquid fertilizers, slurries, pharmaceutical liquids, dairy products, powders, granules, and bulk solids. It is also ideal for interface level measurement, where two immiscible liquids such as oil and water need to be monitored simultaneously.
Manufactured using premium-quality materials such as SS316L Stainless Steel, Hastelloy C, PTFE-coated probes, PEEK, Duplex Stainless Steel, and corrosion-resistant alloys, the transmitter provides excellent resistance to corrosive process media and harsh industrial environments. Depending on the application, it is available with Rigid Rod, Flexible Cable, Coaxial, Single Rod, and Twin Rod Probe configurations.
The transmitter provides a standard 4–20 mA analog output with optional HART Communication, RS485 Modbus RTU, Profibus PA, Foundation Fieldbus, and Bluetooth Configuration (model dependent), ensuring seamless integration with PLC, DCS, SCADA Systems, Industrial Automation Networks, and Process Control Systems.
Equipped with advanced digital electronics, the VSAN Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter offers intelligent features including automatic signal processing, false echo suppression, interface measurement, programmable measuring ranges, self-diagnostics, temperature compensation, and digital calibration, ensuring reliable operation even under demanding process conditions.
Designed for industrial applications, the transmitter features a rugged IP66/IP67/IP68-rated enclosure, superior EMC protection, high vibration resistance, and optional Explosion-Proof (Ex-proof) certification for hazardous area installations. Its compact design, low maintenance requirements, and excellent long-term stability make it suitable for continuous operation in critical process environments.
The VSAN Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter is widely used in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical Industries, Chemical Processing, Power Plants, Water & Wastewater Treatment, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Food & Beverage Industries, Steel Plants, Cement Industries, Mining, Marine Applications, Storage Tank Farms, OEM Equipment, and Industrial Automation, where highly accurate and dependable level measurement is essential.
With its advanced TDR technology, exceptional measurement accuracy, rugged construction, and intelligent communication capabilities, the VSAN Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter provides an ideal solution for demanding industrial level measurement applications.
The VSAN Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter operates on the Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) Principle.
The transmitter continuously sends high-frequency microwave pulses along a metallic probe that extends into the process vessel.
When the microwave pulse reaches the surface of the process medium, a portion of the signal is reflected back due to the change in dielectric constant between air and the product.
The transmitter accurately measures the time taken for the microwave pulse to travel down the probe and return. Using the known propagation speed of the microwave signal, the instrument calculates the distance between the reference point and the product surface.
The measured distance is then converted into the actual liquid or solid level inside the tank. In interface applications, the transmitter can detect reflections from two different liquid layers, enabling accurate measurement of the interface level between liquids such as oil and water.
An internal microprocessor performs advanced signal filtering, false echo suppression, automatic calibration, and digital compensation before converting the measured level into a 4–20 mA analog output or digital communication signal.
The processed level data is transmitted to PLC, DCS, SCADA systems, or industrial controllers for continuous monitoring, inventory management, alarm generation, and process automation.
This measuring principle provides highly accurate and stable level measurement even in applications involving foam, vapor, turbulence, high pressure, high temperature, condensation, or low dielectric media.
The VSAN Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter is widely used for continuous level and interface measurement in various industrial applications.
